This program prepares pharmacists with knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to deliver comprehensive patient care in acute care settings, to pursue PGY2 training, and to qualify for clinical positions in academia and pharmacy practice management.

Program Description

PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Beechwood Memorial is a 12-month program that provides outstanding clinical practice opportunities in acute patient care settings. Pharmacy resident actively participates in multidisciplinary rounds and interacts closely with providers, nurses and other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes. The resident has the opportunity to collaborate with Idaho State University College of Pharmacy clinical faculty to develop and implement a quality-improvement/research project, submit for publication, provide didactic teaching in pharmacy program, precept APPE students, prepare for a board-certification exam, and obtain a teaching certificate. This residency is accredited with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Training Site

The primary training site for the residency is Beechwood Memorial (Beechwood Memorial) a for-profit, 330-bed, full-service acute care medical facility providing the following services:

  • Level II Trauma Center
  • Level IIIb Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Open-heart surgery
  • Electrophysiology laboratory
  • Comprehensive cancer treatment
  • Neurosurgery
  • Bariatric Center of Excellence
  • Flight rescue service

Assisted by automated medication cabinets, electronic health records, and computerized physician order entry, Beechwood Memorial pharmacists provide excellence in patient care as part of a decentralized pharmacy department model.
