Before surgeries, these dedicated professionals complete a comprehensive patient evaluation to determine the type and amount of anesthesia that would be most appropriate for you. They consider medical condition, surgical procedure requirements and response to anesthesia; they then conduct a patient consultation during which they inform you of your options, making certain the risks and benefits of each alternative are fully explained.
During surgery anesthesiologists monitor your heart rate and other vital signs while controlling levels of pain and consciousness, freeing surgeons from distraction.
Once surgery is over, they keep tabs on your level of pain and see to it that recovery from anesthesia is as smooth as possible. And if you’re scheduled for an overnight stay at EIRMC, expect them to make a visit for next-day evaluations. Maybe you’ll even feel like thanking them.
